Fathi Almaraghi Ph.D. Associate Professor

Dr. Fathi Al-Maraghi is an associate professor of Contemporary Iranian and Middle Eastern Studies at the National Defence College, and a well-known analyst on the Iranian affairs. He worked as an assistant professor of Contemporary History at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He was the Head of the Centre for Humanities and Futures Studies at the same university. He also worked as the Head of the Centre for Studies and Research at the Arabian Gulf Centre for Iranian Studies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Almaraghi was the Director of the International Institute for Iranian Studies – “Rasanah”, in Riyadh, the supervisor of the annual strategic report issued by “Rasanah” Institute in Riyadh, and the monthly Iranian case report issued by the same institute. Furthermore, Dr. Almaraghi was as a senior researcher at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research.

He participated in many political seminars on issues related to contemporary Iranian affairs politically and militarily. He taught at Ain Shams University in Cairo and a number of academic courses designed specifically for researchers in decision support centers and strategic analysis. Dr. Fathi Al-Maraghi obtained a Ph.D. from Ain Shams University for his thesis on the “Iranian Cultural Revolution”, preceded by a master's degree for his thesis on “Friday (khutbah al-jum'a) in Iran, a Study in Analyzing the Content of Discourse”. He specializes in the study of Iranian political transformations and their internal, regional and international impact.

He is the author and editor of several books and studies, including "The Military Institution in Iran, Between the Revolution and the State – The Internal Opposition to the Theory of the Fakih Mandate. Dr. Fathi Al-Maraghi contributed to several studies conducted at the International Institute of Iranian Studies in Riyadh, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, the Center for Middle East Studies at Ain Shams University and the Center for Strategic Studies of the Al-Ahram Foundation in Cairo.
