Riham Bahi Ph.D. Associate Professor

Dr. Riham Bahi is an Associate Professor of international relations at the National Defence College (NDC) of the United Arab Emirates. Before joining NDC, Dr. Bahi was an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. Dr. Bahi earned her PhD in International and Public Affairs from Northeastern University in Boston, where she also received her MA in International Relations and Comparative Politics.
Dr. Bahi served as the academic coordinator of the Euro-Mediterranean Studies program at Cairo University 2017-2021. She worked as the academic coordinator for AMIDEAST Education Abroad Program (2010-2012). Between 2021-2023, Dr. Bahi was the coordinator of the political science program at the Institute of Arab Studies and Research (ALESCO, the League of Arab States).
Dr. Bahi is a member of the Board of Trustees of Egypt’s National Dialogue since June 2021. Based on her expertise, Bahi was selected in 2022 as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Youth Diplomacy Program at the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. Prof. Bahi is a member of the Future Studies and Risk Management Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology since 2016. She served as Associate Editor for the Review of Economics and Political Science (the quarterly journal of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, published by Emerald).
Prof. Bahi was a visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo (2009-2022). She was a visiting scholar at the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Politics at Freie Universität Berlin (November 2017), and a visiting Professor at the Institute of the Middle and Far East, Jagiellonian University, Poland (Fall 2018 and Spring 2023) and a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Delaware, USA (June 2000).

Bahi has experience in academic program and curriculum development as well as capacity-building programs for faculty and students. Bahi has developed and implemented programs for strengthening the capacity of graduate students in dissertation research and writing in partnership with DAAD Kairo Akademie, Freie Universität Berlin, Ford Foundation and the Population Council in Cairo.

She worked as the coordinator of the Gender in Higher Education Project (2013-2014), in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the Free University in Berlin, funded by the DAAD. This project resulted in the development of gender units and equal opportunity offices at four Egyptian universities as well as MA degree in Gender and Development in cooperation with Sussex University in the UK, funded by UN WOMEN.

Bahi has received many awards and honors, including a Fulbright Doctoral Award (2001) and the teaching “expert credentials” from the Center for Effective University Teaching at Northeastern University(2003) and Cairo University International Publishing Award in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Her research interests include international relations and global governance, gender studies, Egypt and U.S. Foreign Policies, Iran-Gulf relations, and Euro-Mediterranean relations.
