On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the National Defence College hosted H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Qasimi, the Executive Director of the Hedayah, the International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism, to deliver a lecture entitled “Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism.” The lecture was part of an introductory session with the participants of the 13th National Defence Course. H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Qasimi was received by Brigadier Pilot/ Saif Al-Yamahi, along with the Commanders of the College’s wings.
During his meeting with the course participants, H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Qasimi presented an overview of Hedayah Center, which is recognized as a leading international platform supporting policies and programs aimed at preventing violent extremism. He explained that since its establishment as part of the Global Counterterrorism Forum, Hedayah has been working to develop practical strategies, conduct specialized research studies, and deliver training programs aimed at building the capacity of institutions and individuals to confront the phenomenon of extremism and terrorism whose national definitions vary from one country to another.
H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Qasimi also highlighted the Center’s pivotal role in shaping international policies and establishing timelines for activities and initiatives implemented in partnership with states, regional organizations, global bodies, and institutions concerned with countering extremism and terrorism. These efforts, he noted, contribute to supporting societies in their endeavors to promote peace and security and to combat extremist ideologies.
At the conclusion of the lecture, H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Al Qasimi, CEO of Hedayah Center, welcomed and answered questions from the participants of the 13th National Defence Course (2025–2026), in collaboration with his team of advisors.
