The National Defence College hosted today H.E. Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Member of the Cabinet and Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.
H.E. delivered a lecture to participants of 13th National Defence Course on the United Arab Emirates’ strategy and policy framework for artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and remote work applications. Major General Saeed Salmeen Al Alawi, Commandant of the National Defence College, welcomed H.E. together with the Deputy Commandant and the faculty members.
During the lecture, H.E. reviewed the UAE's ambitious strategy to enhance its global standing and solidify its leading role in the field of artificial intelligence. H.E. highlighted that the UAE National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 aims to integrate and deploy AI technologies across the country’s key priority sectors, including energy (oil and gas), cybersecurity, logistics, healthcare, and education.
H.E. the Minister emphasized that the United Arab Emirates pursues multiple strategic initiatives guided by well-informed policies and legislation, supported by a robust governance framework and effective regulation of emerging technologies, while fostering international cooperation to ensure the safe and sustainable use of artificial intelligence.
H.E. also highlighted that the UAE’s strategy prioritizes empowering generations and nurturing talent through knowledge, education, and digital skills, stressing the importance of developing their digital capabilities to keep pace with the rapidly evolving global economy. He noted that the UAE’s accomplishments in this domain have established the country as one of the world’s leading destinations for attracting top-tier talent.
H.E. noted that big data, mis-targeting, and deepfakes represent the most significant challenges facing artificial intelligence today, emphasizing that the most effective way to address these challenges and mitigate future risks is by leveraging artificial intelligence itself to confront and manage them efficiently.
The lecture witnessed lively interaction from the participants of the 13th National Defence Course, who actively asked questions and engaged in discussions with H.E.
At the conclusion of the visit, the leadership of the National Defence College expressed its appreciation to H.E. Omar bin Sultan Al Olama for his valuable knowledge-sharing, reaffirming the College’s commitment to strengthening national partnerships that contribute to preparing cadres capable of understanding and internalizing the UAE’s strategic policies and achieving their objectives in service of the nation’s highest interests.
